Wizards of the Coast announced on May 17, 2019, the starting day of the D&DLive2019 event, that the next storyline to be released will be called, “Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus.” Release date will be: September 17, 2019. The setting will take players into Avernus, which is the first layer of the Nine Hells. The storyline revolves around the celestial-turned-archdevil Zariel enacting her long-awaited vengeance upon the city of Elturel, and she’s pulled the adventurers into the frey. The adventure will take players from 1-13, with low-level adventures starting in Baldur’s Gate, which lead designer Adam Lee describes as “the Gotham [City] of the Sword Coast.” So, for those players that played in “Waterdeep: Dragon Heist,” they will find Baldur’s Gate is nearly a polar opposite of the City of Splendors. You can pre-order “Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus” at D&D Beyond. The cost is $29.99, and pre-ordering unlocks the entire contents of the book version for use with D&D Beyond, including the adventure in digital format and access to all the adventure’s options in the searchable listings, character builder, and digital sheet. It will also unlock special character frames, character backdrops, and theme colors for the digital character sheet. There will be a game store-exclusive cover by Hydro74 featuring the skull-shaped icon of Bhaal that is now inexorably linked with Baldur’s Gate
